Clydesdale Cricket Club was established in 1848, making it the third oldest cricket club in Scotland and potentially one of Glasgow City’s oldest surviving sports organisations. Among Scotland’s leading cricket clubs, Clydesdale’s distinguished history can be traced back to its founder, Archibald Campbell, originally from Hawick in the Scottish Borders.
In its early days, Clydesdale also had a football team and made it to the very first Scottish Cup Final. Clydesdale’s members were later involved in the formation of the Scottish Football Association, with Archibald Campbell appointed as the SFA’s first President. In 1873, the club sold its first ground in Kinning Park to a fledgling football club called Glasgow Rangers and moved to its current ground, Titwood. The two clubs have maintained strong relations which have lasted to the present day.
Among the many honours the club has achieved throughout its history, it is particularly proud of the 1977 appointment of Titwood as the ‘National Facility’ for Scottish Cricket which led to the regular hosting of major international matches. Clydesdale’s proud association with international cricket has continued to this day, with many of their players having been called up to the Scotland National Team. One such player is current Clydesdale cricket player and Captain of the Scotland Cricket Team, Richie Berrington.
Clydesdale Cricket Club and Prosperity Financial Solutions first became associated when Bill McCracken reached out to sponsor the club and, at the time, neither party could have envisioned the full potential of the partnership. In the twenty years of sponsorship, Prosperity Financial has enjoyed the continuous success of Clydesdale Cricket Club which has seen them win five league titles, including back-to-back National Premier Leagues titles, three Western Union Premier League titles, the Scottish Cup and some thirteen T20 trophies.
